In the bliss (aka blur) that is the first year of motherhood, it’s hard to imagine the day when you’ll be moving your sweet little one into their own little “big kid” bed. You may accept that the time has come when, whilst blissfully enjoying a moment of silence during nap time, you hear the *thud* and pitter-patter of your toddler descending from his or her crib and bee lining toward you. Or perhaps it’s their idea... Maybe they’re potty trained now, maybe they’re comfortable going to preschool, they definitely want to dress themselves. They’re starting to feel like a big kid, and the crib just won’t cut it.

Whatever the reason, at some point you’ll be preparing to make the move. One way to smooth the transition is to get your little one excited about his or her new bed.

One of our favorite toddler bed trends that both mamas and little one can get behind is the adorable house bed. With an ode to Scandinavian style, this minimal bed frame is perfect for both boys and girls and suits so many different design styles.

We love this one by our friends at A Child’s Nook. Available in three different sizes and three colors, these high quality bed frames are hand-crafted in Idaho from solid furniture-grade wood.

One benefit to the house bed style that mamas love is how they are constructed such that the mattress lays directly on the ground. Therefore, you won’t need to fret about your little one falling as they get themselves in and out of bed, or rolling out as they sleep in the night.

The house shaped frame will spark their creativity as they imagine themselves in a castle in the woods or a hidden palace in the jungle. Drape a light blanket over the frame to create a fort. Hang colorful accents or lights along the top. Apply decals to the wall. Let your little one make the space their own, creating a magical little space that both gives them comfort and makes them feel independent.

Another great addition to ease the transition to the house bed is the DockATot Grand. The Grand dock is ideal for bed transitioning, thanks to built-in sides that  allow toddlers to settle more easily in a bigger bed.

In the weeks leading up to the move, introduce the Grand pod as a cozy place to lounge around the house during the day for naps, story time, and general play. Once you move it to toddler bed for nighttime sleeping, it will give little ones a snug sense of security and familiarity in their newer, bigger beds.
